We always talk about buying sustainable fish, but we never talk about what happens in the high seas. We are talking about it today.

We covered the story after Keith Davis missing under suspicious circumstances. 2 years later, the story has developed and exposed the darkness of fisheries on the high seas.

I speak to Dr. Brett Favaro about his upcoming book called "Carbon Code: How To Become a Climate Change Hero" in this episode of the Speak Up For Blue Podcast.

Listen in as we discuss how the world can move towards sustainability and how you and I can live for a better Ocean (and Planet), save money and be healthier by becoming a Climate Change Hero!

To be transparent: I do not make any money through affiliate sales on Brett's book. I am merely telling you about it to help you and I (yes, I pre-ordered the book too!) reduce our Climate Change Impact.

Resisting against bad policies can work, but it's important to know what the policies are and which one we need to focus our attention. In today's episode, I talk about 3 stories that have come to my attention recently:

1) Is the US government really proposing to Eliminate the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)?
2) How a specific lobby group got the a Congressman to rescind a bill that could harm National Parks; and,
3) Why it's important for Scientists and Conservationists to comment on government reports and policies during the open public comment periods.

It has been a dream of mine to document Marine Science and Conservation on film. Today, I talk to Matthew Podolsky who will tell us how he did it.  Matthew founded a Wild Lens, a non-profit charitable organization that works to tell the conservation stories that matter and teach other scientists/conservationists to tell their stories.

No one enjoys seeing whales and dolphins get stranded. It's a sad site. Last weekend's mass stranding of 650 pilot whales of the northern coast of South Island in New Zealand is no different. However, it's a good chance to take the time to tell you why marine mammals get stranded.

In this episode, I tell you what happened this past weekend; why strandings happen in this part of the world so much; and, how people responded to it.

1) New Technology to enforce Marine Protected Areas;
2) Greenpeace has taken the first pictures of the newly discovered reef under the Amazon River;
3) A new Chimera species has been discovered; and,
4) A new Bonnethead shark has also been discovered.

Snorkeling is probably one of the easiest things to do with the Family. I took my family out snorkeling at a marine park in Mexico to view the local wildlife. I saw some some good things and bad in regards to people snorkeling, so I thought I would give you some tips on how to snorkel if you are a beginner or someone who loves to snorkel and wants to make sure they do it right in terms of your own safety and the safety of the Ocean.

Also, I lend a few words on what happened to Ocean Conservationist and Scientist, Rob Stewart, who died during a diving accident. I hope I did him justice.

Dr. Edd Hind-Ozan and I are back with another episode of Ocean Talk Friday where we discuss Donald Trump's action in his first week of his Presidency.

Specifically, we discuss 3 major topics:
1) The US Federal Government hiring freeze;
2) The Devaluation of National Parks (Update as of late yesterday, this bill was rescinded as the fishing and hunting community did not like that bill...YAY!); and,
3) Science is silenced by Trump.

Ocean conservation issues arise all around the world and there are people who want resolve those issues, but how do they do it. According to Doug Fetterly, our guest today, who is chair of the Marine Action Team (MAT) with the Sierra Club, he says people should make their voices heard on social media and in person. However, there is more to just Speaking Up For The Blue. There are particular strategies that will help your voice be heard and considered by the right people.

Doug goes over those strategies to let the Speak Up For Blue community know what we can do to ensure our Ocean Conservation values are taken seriously.
