Dr. Rebecca Helm wrote a great article on how we currently think about jellyfish and how we should think about jellyfish. You might be wondering what that sentence really meant. You will have to listen to find out. Jellyfish are amazing creatures, just ask Rebecca Helm; however, some jellies can get a little dangerous if one happens to get stung by a jelly. In this episode, I talk about how Climate Change is causing concern about a specific kind of jellyfish in Australia that is moving south due to warming waters. The sting of this particular jellyfish can cause extreme pain and "make you want to die." Quite scary. The Australian government is worried about the southern migration and its effect on tourism. I had the great opportunity to meet and work with Rebecca at OceanDotCom 2018 hosted by LUMCON. During the event, Rebecca came to me to ask if she would like me to have her on the podcast to talk about how cool Jellyfish are...and of course, I said "YES!!!" So we got together last week to record this episode and to discuss the variability of jellyfish. In particular, Rebecca wanted to discuss a study that was published a number of years ago reporting that climate change will bring on more blooms of jellyfish. Apparently, that is not the case and Rebecca is here to set us all straight. Enjoy the Podcast!!! I would love to hear your opinion on this episode. Join the Facebook Group to chime in.
